Emotional Intelligence: The Key to LifeLong Success
From our childhood through to adulthood we are conditioned to treat emotions as if they are separate from our understanding of the world and how we engage with one another.
We use phrases like “hotheaded” to define someone who has lost their temper, or is out of control. We resort to metaphor to explain how were feeling, mainly because we just don’t understand emotions. We have been made to believe that emotions are sort of necessary fictional part of our identity, and so we react accordingly.
Emotional intelligence is really multiplicity of things, not just one aspect Tal we relate to our emotions. Emotional intelligence is also about being aware of your emotions, not just being in control of them, but finding the origins of what initiated that emotional experience.
In the marketplace, emotional intelligence has been used as a buzzword, but you hardly find any areas within a workplace that allows space for just emotional awareness.
I think, this is mainly due to the fact that we are still at a loss of what to do with our emotions — we still tend to react to them as shortcomings, rather than a part of the whole human experience.
To encourage emotional intelligence with ourselves and with those we work with is to first recognize that to be human is to be emotional. Then, allow space for emotional expression, what this means is that we need to strategically design our workplaces, whether they be at your home or elsewhere, to allow space for self-expression.
Some of the most practical examples could be: yoga, expressive table art, meditation rooms, relaxing rooms, spaces where people feel like they can just fully express themselves in a safe and creative way.
Feeling safe is key. If people come to work feeling like they’re coming to work, that is a problem that should be solved by those in charge. However, I and postmodern in my approach to leadership, and that there is no hierarchy of power, power is shared in and through an organization or a body of people.
So safety then is simply having those in functional leadership roles working with those, as equals, finding ways in which everybody involved in the company can actually feel safe, safe enough to share and express their emotions.
So, emotional intelligence should not be something that is undermined by becoming just a simple buzzword, emotional intelligence works throughout every aspect of our lives.
We should constantly be fighting, creating, inventing and manifesting spaces where we allowed, not just ourselves, but others to safely express how they feel.
Last we think to be human is to be an automaton , emotions are key to being A successful entrepreneur. Cognitively speaking, creativity tends to arise out of the emotional side of our humanity.
The structure, the order, the analysis, the practical steps involved in implementing that creativity comes from the left side of our brain. So to navigate one over the other, is to negate one important aspect of being human.
So, if you are new to the marketplace, or are new to being an entrepreneur, please keep in mind that it is extremely valid and important to allow yourself and others space to express emotional awareness and intelligence, this is the first step toward sustainable success.
